Which headlights are worth money?

Not every headlight in the scrap pile is worth the same, and a couple of them are worth a lot more than you'd guess. You don't need to be an expert to sort them. Here is how to tell what you're holding in about ten seconds.

Look at how it makes light

That's the whole game. The light source inside decides most of the value.

LED

Rows of small LED emitters instead of a bulb, often with a heat sink and a chunky driver module on the back. These pay the most, because the modules, drivers, and control units inside get reused. If a unit looks modern and complex, it's probably one of these. Text it in.

HID/Xenon

Look for a projector (that little round glass ball inside) and a ballast box on the back. HID units have steady value. The ballasts, igniters, and projectors keep moving. Worth selling every time.

Halogen

A plain replaceable bulb with a reflector, no ballast, no driver. These are the most common and the most variable. Some specific vehicles are worth real money, plenty aren't. This is exactly the case where photos beat a guess. We will tell you which side yours lands on.

Two things that matter more than you'd think

• OEM vs aftermarket. Factory units hold real value; aftermarket usually doesn't unless it's mint. Check for a real part number and brand markings.
• Wear is fine, broken glass is not. Fogging, hazing, sun fade, and broken tabs don't affect what we pay. A cracked or chipped lens does, because at that point the unit isn't one we can use.

The lazy-but-correct method

Honestly? Don't overthink it. If it's an OEM headlight with the lens and housing intact, just send us photos. Ten seconds of your time tells you exactly what it's worth, and you skip the whole "is this one worth it" debate.
