The four photos that get you top dollar.
Here's a thing most people don't realize: when a buyer can't see something clearly, they price for the worst case. Blurry photo of the lens? We have to assume it's chipped. Can't read the part number? We guess conservatively. Every question mark in your photos comes out of your offer.
So the fix is simple. Kill the guesswork and you get the best price. Four shots do it.
1. The front, straight on
Lens facing you, decent light, whole unit in frame. This tells us the model at a glance and shows the lens condition, which is the single biggest thing we need to check. Fogging and hazing are completely fine, so don't worry about those.
2. The back of the housing
Flip it over. The back is where we confirm it's OEM, spot the LED drivers or HID ballast, and check nothing's been hacked into. This is the single most useful shot for pricing an LED unit accurately.
3. Any damage, up close
This is the one people are tempted to skip, and it's the one that matters most. Photograph any chips, cracks, broken tabs, or scuffs directly. Disclosing damage doesn't lose you the sale, it just makes the quote accurate. Hiding it only creates a problem when the unit arrives.
4. The part-number label
Every OEM headlight has a molded or stickered part number. Get it in focus. With that number we can price to the exact model instead of ballparking, and exact almost always beats ballpark in your favor. Sticker gone? A VIN or the year/make/model covers it.
A couple of small things that help
- Shoot in daylight or under a shop light, not a dim corner.
- Wipe heavy grime off the label so it's readable.
- Got five of the same? One good set of four plus a "have 5" note is plenty.
That's the whole trick. Four clear photos, an honest look at the damage, and you'll get our best price the first time.
